  • About Me

Born & raised in Africa, a writer, artist & musician by choice, and a technologist by financial compulsion.

I'm currently a Distinguished Technical Architect for the Salesforce Platform. For the past 17 years, I've been a Microsoft and Salesforce platform evangelist, advising Fortune 100 organizations and Public Sector customers on their strategic software platforms and cloud investments. At both Microsoft and Salesforce, I've worked in a variety of technical sales roles, including the evangelism of Visual Studio & Azure, Salesforce & Heroku, and related integration & development technologies.

Before joining Microsoft, I was a parter with NSE, a venture capital firm, and CTO of Personic, one of NSE's portfolio companies. My efforts to develop their software platform on Microsoft technologies led to the acquisition of Personic's' HR solution by Microsoft, which operated Microsoft's recruiting & staffing systems.

In previous years, I worked for the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention on a variety of projects including bio-terrorism, GIS and the Human Genome Network. Earlier in my career, I consulted with EDS and TRW, delivered financial software solutions in Equifax's e-banking division and was the founder and partner of DSS Online, the first Internet Provider to service Southern Georgia in the early '90's.

Born, raised and educated in Malawi, Africa, I pursued education in the Arts & Creative Writing and I've co-authored/edited books such as Professional XML, Professional Biztalk Server, Professional XML Databases, served on technical advisory committees for Microsoft, the CDC, Georgia Technology Authority, the HR-XML Consortium and the W3C.

    My Bio

Professionally speaking, I'm seasoned in software design, lifecycle management & cloud-oriented sales with a non-exclusive emphasis on the Microsoft platform.

    My Career

After a few seasons in the ISP and software startup space, I've spent the last 10 years as a Microsoft Developer Platform Evangelist.

    My Speaking

From Business Week Executive tours to Microsoft product launches & DevDays, I've presented to every size & type of audience.

    My Publishing

From publishing through Wrox Press, writing whitepapers, and developing online Training Kits, I've put my English education to the test.

    My Resume

If a conventional PDF or Word doc is how you like to view me, you can feel free to check mine out or download it for later.

    My Current Projects

I've spent the past 12 years as a technology advisor for many companies...check out some of the more intriguing ones I've worked with.

  • My Artwork

    My Paintings

I mostly stick with acrylics on canvas, but my subjects range from abstracts to fantasy to large-scale wall hangings.

    My Sketches

I prefer pen & pencil drawings...and I'm fascinated with eyes & abstracts that symbolize concepts.

    My Technology Designs

Some of the docs, trailers and webinars I've done internally and externally.

    My Culintary Interests

Sounds crazy, but I love the culinary arts...and have a few examples of my more liked goodies.

    continue the tour...My Writing...
  • my writing

I write mostly for myself, but if you enjoy reading some of my randomness...well then...I'm glad!

I've always been an avid writer and journalist...from everyday thoughts, to reflections after reading others. Once a year, I typically take all of my scribbles and put them into electronic form and bind them into a coffee table book of sorts. As with anyone who writes, I'm sure you will detect the different moods and seasons I've gone through as I've written, but all-in-all, this method seems less expensive than a therapist :-)

  • music & social

Music is my passion...the piano, guitar, drums, trumpet and my DJ decks...anything with notes!

Starting with the trumpet and piano, and later adding the guitar and drums, I've always had an ear and prefer to play by that ear. In recent years, drums and the trumpet are a tad harder to practice in small spaces, so the piano and guitar have emerged as my primaries. DJing has become my social outlet and I thoroughly enjoy each gig that I get to perform!

From Skydrive to Google Drive to my PogoPlug drives at home...I can't help but be connected

For social reasons, people want to see my photography, travels and random photos. Professionally, I'm always exchanging files and sharing work and presentations with customers. I decided it was time to just say "go to my web site...it's all there." So feel free to grab what you need...

  • My Bio

Currently I'm a Master Architect with Salesforce Heroku; I am part of the Salesforce.com Platform focusing on Developer Platform-as-a-Service (Paas) and how it provides for the development of intriquing User & Customer Experiences.

Prior to Salesforce, I spent time in a hybrid role between Microsoft and their largest global partner Insight, selling Microsoft Cloud technologies, building platform scenarios and scoping services for Cloud-transitioning customers in the Atlanta area. For the prior 10 years, I was a member of the Developer Platform Evangelism team at Microsoft, where I advised Fortune 100 organizations and Public Sector customers in the financial, retail, healthcare and government sectors on their strategic software platforms and investments. There I worked in a variety of technical sales roles, including the evangelism of Visual Studio, MSDN, Application Lifecycle Management best practices and other related platform products such as SharePoint, System Center and Dynamics.

Before joining Microsoft, I was a parter with NSE, a venture capital firm, and CTO of Personic, one of NSE's portfolio companies. My efforts to develop their software platform on .NET led to the acquisition of Personic's' HR solution by Microsoft, which operated Microsoft's recruiting & staffing systems.

    ABOUT BUSINESS

What saves a man [or a company] is to take a step. Then another step.

    ABOUT CHRISTIANITY

Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important.

    ABOUT FRIENDSHIP

Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art... It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that gives value to survival.

    ABOUT GROWING UP

It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad.

    ABOUT LEADERSHIP

Leaders aren't born they are made. And they are made just like anything else, through hard work. And that's the price we'll have to pay to achieve that goal, or any goal.

    ABOUT LEARNING

Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make man a more clever devil.

    ABOUT LIFE ITSELF

You play the hand you're dealt. I think the game's worthwhile.

    ABOUT TRAGEDY

From the writings of one of the most critical minds today, Ravi Zacharius, I find that tragedy brings four converging issues: * The first is cultural * There is a second issue and that is of religion and its political outpouring * The third is the spiritual reminder in the tragedy * The final component is the very real emotional strain of it all Only in God can we find peace and confidence in the midst of tragedy, knowing there is a destiny to which we all move.

ABOUT GOD - "Evil and the Power of God" by C.S. Lewis
    The Problem:

If God is Omnipotent, then why does Human suffering occur? Asking the Question: “Why couldn’t God have made the world without it?” (Presupposition of the view is that humans have free will.)

    C.S. Lewis’s approach:
Argues that it is possible to affirm both...

    Divine Omnipotence:
    • That it is impossible for God to create a world containing free beings that would also not allow for the possibility of evil.
    • Such a world is intrinsically impossible.
    • Conditional and Intrinsic Impossibility

    Conditionally impossible:
    • The claim that a thing or act is impossible unless certain other conditions obtain.

    Intrinsically impossible:
    • The claim that a thing or act is impossible under all conditions and in all worlds for all agents.

    Intrinsic impossibilities:
    • Square Circles
    • Uncaused acts
    • Free Will and an absence of evil?

    The meaning of Omnipotence:
    • “With God all things are possible”

    Does this mean:
    • God can do anything? (Even the Intrinsically Impossible?)
    • or - God can do that which is not Intrinsically Impossible
    • Is it a limit of Omnipotence to not be able to do that which is not a thing?

    Possible vs. Impossible Worlds:
    • If we can speak of the possible worlds God could have created, we can also talk of the impossible worlds which God could not create.
    • Because they involve a contradiction - something which is intrinsically impossible
    • A World without the possibility of Evil could not contain free beings.

Evil is necessary if we are to be free:
    • Beings with free choice need things to choose from - some of these choices will be better than others, some worse.
    • The environment required for free choice must be one in which actions have predictable consequences. God cannot suspend the natural order for some, or the freedom of all is compromised. If God acted to prevent evil, then our brains would be incapable of thinking of it.
    • In order for humans to relate, we must be physical. If we are physical, we must be capable of being hurt. In order to feel a caress, we must also be capable of being injured. In order to develop morally (a choice), we must have the possibility of Evil.

    Conclusions:
    • God can still be thought of as omnipotent, but as incapable of doing that which is intrinsically impossible. As to why God would create a world of free beings (or any world at all), we have no way of knowing.
